Learning is the beauty of any pursuit in life. As we learn our skills improve, our knowledge deepens, and our opportunities increase.
In preparation for his trip to the Dean River fly fisherman Randy Kerr (www.randykerr.com) and I took a Redington Dually 8136-4 and Echo 8136-4 to the upper Skykomish River for a demo and fly casting lesson.
We focused on three types of spey casts, the single spey, double spey, and snap-t. Within those case we worked on the fundamentals of anchor placement, hand placement (using the bottom hand), secured D loop, and generating energy in the rod. We fished an AirFlow 600 grain Rage Compact which is an excellent shooting head for summer flies and small to mid-sized tips.
Randy and I had a great time on a gorgeous summer evening after work. He left stoked for his trip and with enough of the basics to give him the advantage on the remote stretches of the Dean River.
Randy sent me this picture last night, looks like he made every cast count!
Congratulations Randy!
