“Father and son donate to local youth”

Boys & Girls Club

Ever since moving to the Pacific Northwest, my son, Cody, and I started on the adventure of learning to fish. We started by going to trout derbies nearby where we lived. These were fun event. As we grew in confidence, we wanted to learn how to fish for salmon. Learning to fish for salmon has been both educational and has given me time to help deepen the relationship I have with my son. Together, we have spent hours dreaming of catching the “big one”. Over the years, we have developed perseverance in the endeavor by trying to find the best fishing holes and getting the right gear. Often times, we would come back empty-handed and a bit disappointed. But we have always been hopeful that our chance would come soon. This is especially so when we see others catch their limit of salmon.
This year has been one of those busy-at-work years. Finding time to fish with Cody has been scarce. So, I wanted to make our time out on the river worth it for the both of us. We decided to find a local expert to see if we could get some advice and help. After sharing with Tim Burke (Believe River guide) our desire to not miss this year’s humpy season, he invited us on his boat for late afternoon salmon fishing trip. The weather was perfect and he took us to a number of great fishing spot where the salmon were jumping. Cody and I were so excited! It was thrilling to see Cody fight the fish to get it out of the water and into the boat. You could see the sense of accomplishment in his big broad smile. In all, we were blessed to catch six salmon. Tim was great; always cheering us on and giving us salmon catching tips. I am so thankful for this opportunity to make lifetime memories with my son.
Encouraged by Tim’s desire to help the local youth in the community, we have decided to partner with him in supporting the Kirkland Boys and Girls Club of King County.
