Guide Profile

Tim BurkeI am a passionate fisherman who loves being on a river with my rod, boat, and friends. I grew up in Washington and have spent the past 17 years fishing for salmon and steelhead in Washington, Oregon, California, and Alaska. I love teaching others to fish! My favorite part of guiding is the joy, laughter, and stories that come from a great day on the river.

My first steelhead was caught off the Columbia River just above the Tri-Cities in a small tributary called Ring Gold. I remember the day like it was yesterday. I was with my dad and two brothers, David and Seth. We had gotten off to a late start and I was overly anxious to reach the river. When we arrived at the Columbia I was overwhelmed by the size of the water and wondered, Where do I start?  After hours of casting unsuccessfully into the ominous abyss of passing currents, I turned to see my dad talking to an older established angler. This gracious fisherman handed him two small orange and white flies and suggested we drift them in the small creek that entered the great Columbia. I quickly tied to my line one of the flies and started to fish. After some time had passed I decided to drift the fly along one of the steep-cut banks. Soon my fly disappeared into the green riffle and within seconds the line went tight and started moving up stream. Out of instinct I pulled back on the rod and the water exploded with a flash of silver fury. Shouts of joy broke the silence, “Fish on! Fish on!” My dad and brothers gathered around to watch the fight and help me land my first steelhead. That day I took home my limit of two beautiful bright fish and the rest is history.

Since then the whisper of the river and hope of the next catch have taken me on adventures I never could have dreamed of. My hope is to share the tools in my fly box with others much like the generous old angler did with me.

Join me in the adventure!
